How it all started...
Family Baptist Church was planted by Fourth Baptist Church in the fall of 1996. God moved in the hearts of the members at Fourth Baptist Church to relocate to the suburbs of Plymouth, MN. Under the leadership of Dr. Doug McLachlan, Fourth Baptist decided to plant an urban church that better reflected the North Minneapolis area.
The leadership of Fourth Baptist asked Dr. Lee Ormiston, who was serving at that time on the pastoral team of Fourth Baptist Church with oversight for the outreach and discipleship of the church, to serve as the founding pastor of the new urban work.
Pastor Lee was the obvious choice to serve as the new pastor. God had already used him to lead several people from North Minneapolis to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. This core of new believers and a collection of Fourth Baptist Church members who lived in North Minneapolis, formed the charter membership of Family Baptist Church.

Expanding the vision...
Family Baptist Church is located in the heart of North Minneapolis, only 3 minutes from the city center. The neighborhood is dynamic, diverse and difficult. The church membership has survived the riots of 2020, the transition of members to safer neighborhoods, and the loss of members to sickness. In spite of these challenges, the church continues to provide a family to those without a family.
It has remained a beacon of hope for the hurting, homeless, and displaced. We are excited to build off the strong foundation established by the core members some 25 years ago! In July of 2021, Family Baptist Church welcomed their new senior pastor, Jason Ormiston, to help lead the church with renewed vision and zeal.

Where we are headed...
Family Baptist Church exists to magnify God, make disciples, and multiply churches. Our desire is to help our members BEHOLD God, BELONG to God’s family and BECOME disciple making disciples of Jesus. We plan to pursue this goal by getting healthy as a church, responding to the needs in our community, and reaching the displaced in our society. Lord willing, our efforts will produce many urban church leaders who will revitalize and plant churches in the Twin Cities and beyond.
